Wisdom from God - Mike's thoughts

Operating with Wisdom from God will help us do what is right and what is needed in His perfect timing, to remove the storms, lies and fears we encounter at any given moment of our lives.  This Widsom will take us into God’s perfect plan, and there we have life more abundantly, for ourselves (John 10:10) and the people around us.

I was not the academic type and never did like taking the two hour tests in high school, but there I was twelve years later sitting in front of some exams that I had to write to improve my Grade 12 marks so I could go to Bible College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  I needed an 80% average to get in.  Fear overtook me as I looked at the exams and thought back to my time at Goodsoil High.  I never got marks higher than 60% and twelve years later I was supposed to get an 80% grade!  I cried out to God, “Lord I am here because you want me to go to Bible College, so I need your help and your wisdom to write these exams.  If you want me to go, give me the right answers to each question on these exams.”   Well I did not get the right answers to every question, but I did get an average of 85% and I knew God’s Wisdom and His hand had done a miracle in my life that day.

God has made His Divine Wisdom available to anyone who asks and when we operate in His Wisdom (looking at every situation through His eyes), we find answers to all our problems.   Peace comes to calm the troubled storm, fear is replaced with love, power and a sound mind, hope is renewed and we begin to walk in intimacy and freedom with our almighty loving God.

October Already!

I can't believe it is October 1st already...  September went by so fast as we settled into our new home and enjoyed every last minute of the beautiful weather.

I seem to have brought a cold back with me from Alberta :(  Today I am snuggled up to a warm wood stove and watching the leaves fall off the trees.  The process is slower than usual because of the unseasonably warm weather but I am enjoying the change of seasons.  Change is inevitable isn't it?  But it is a good thing!

The opportunity to relax and take a bit of a sabbatical is a gift from God.  I am getting reacquainted with my baking skills which I thought I had completely forgot and I am allowing my creative juices to start flowing again.  I have dug into my embarrassingly huge inventory of craft supplies and begun making cards and doing some scrapbooking again.  Can't tell you how much fun that has been, almost makes me want to forget there are dishes and housework to be done...

I noticed that the banner says this is Mike and Lori Hinger's blog...  Guess that means I have to give Mike a little push to get something written.  Actually last week he was doing some writing, he just needs to finish it up so we can post it.  He'll be sharing some devotional/thought provoking items.  So stay tuned...

Ty's 30th Birthday

So last Thursday we travelled to Stoney Plain, Alberta (approximately 4 hours) to help Tyler celebrate his milestone birthday.  When Krysta turned 30 we celebrated for almost a week so we needed to do the same for Tyler :)

We spent the first couple of days catching up with some friends that we haven't seen in forever and then we had a birthday bash on Saturday.  Krysta and I baked a couple of cheesecakes and a chocolate zucchini cake and Mike barbequed 32 hamburgers.  We had a great time visiting and playing rock band...  Then I had to beat Krysta and my niece Leann at a game of Settlers of Catan :)

On Sunday, Tyler's actual birthday, we went out for lunch after church with Archie and Bess Binnie and then headed home to watch NFL football, one of Ty's favorite things to do.  Then we had to play another game of Settlers because I had been having withdrawals ever since Krysta and Tyler moved away...  It was close but Krysta conquered!

Monday we headed out to West Edmonton Mall to buy Ty his birthday gift.  Can't remember the last time I was in that mall...  And then to make the birthday extravaganza complete, we went to Red Lobster for supper for all you can eat shrimp.

All in all, we had a wonderful time and tomorrow we will return home to SK.

Talk to you soon,

Lori

Moving from BC to Saskatchewan!!

Well moving day was August 28th and we left bright and early in the morning. We travelled 12 hours to Stoney Plain and spent the night at Krysta and Tyler's house. The next day we went for breakfast and then were on the road again for another 4 hours until we arrived at our new home in Goodsoil, SK!

We are living in a cabin near Lac des Isles, owned by my sister and brother-in-law (Mike's brother). It has taken us a few weeks to get settled as we get our furniture and belongings organized and do some cleaning, but when the weather is nice we have to run down to the lake and go fishing, so the settling and organizing has taken longer than expected because the weather has been beautiful!  We also have to gather wood for the winter to help keep us warm, there always seems to be something to do :)

The first week we were in SK we were invited by Max Solbrekken to attend some church meetings on the First Nations reserve at Loon Lake. We met a lot of nice people and helped to minister to them with Max. As a result it appears that we will be ministering at another First Nations reserve in the area in the near future. We are looking forward to seeing what doors the Lord will open for ministry in the province of Saskatchewan!

We are missing all of our friends that we left behind in Abbotsford but we are excited about our new community in Goodsoil. It is definitely an adjustment compared to living in the city...the biggest one being that nothing happens as fast, but that's a good thing because we are enjoying the slower pace. The hardest wait was for the internet, it took almost three weeks to get it :) Now that we have internet it will be easier to stay connected with everyone.

We will keep you posted on the adventures of Mike and Lori...

Until next time,

Lori
